Description

Since 2013 the concept Reverse Polarity Rejection has been patented and marketed by RVD-Safe as an RVD-EMR.

The standard AS-NZS_3001.2-2022 was released on the 18th November 2022 giving 12 months grace before mandating and comes into force November 2023.

Page 24, 2.6.4 Protection against incorrect polarity, for every single -phase external supply, protection against transposition of active & neutral conductors.

Transposition sensor, commonly referred to as a reverse polarity sensor.

The 16amp combination RCBO & RVD-EMR is leading the way forward in RV safety for Mains and Isolated Power.

The Residual Voltage Detection Unit (RVD-EMR) is designed for use in TN (M.E.N)/TT electrical earthing systems to enhance electrical protection to any electrical distribution system already protected by an RCBO.
The RVD-EMR provides two (2) additional layers of electrical protection:
1. The RVD-EMR provides an additional layer of electrical protection overcoming conventional issues with protective devices usually caused by environmental factors including high impedance environments such as sandy, hard rocky soils, wet electrical areas, unearthed electrical supplies, portable generators and power inverters in all applications but specifically in Recreational Vehicles where confinement of use with multiple appliances occur.
2. Detects and trips the RCBO when the Supply Neutral and Active are swapped which is represented by the letter “R” signifying Reverse Polarity Protection.
If the RCBO does not detect and trips on an earth leakage fault, if the earth fault leakage voltage / leakage current between the Active and the RVD-EMR Sense line (earth/frame) is above the specifications detailed below, RVD- EMR will automatically trip the electrically connected RCBO and isolate the supply voltage to the load.
Physical Data
Dimensions: 36mm W, 78mm H and 65mm D, combined with supplied RCBO and is DIN rail mountable,
Connections are:
 Neutral Supply-side – Blue
 Active Load-side – Brown
 Neutral Load-side – Blue
 Earth/Frame (Sensor) – Green/Yellow
The device will in no way impede or interfere with the normal operation of an RCBO.

The compliance officer from Energy Safe Victoria stated the following:

22/12/2018

“In relation to the RVDSAFE and RVD-EI module, from my observation of the construction of the device I do not believe that this device is covered under the ESV prohibition for RCBO’s.

We requested the RVD-SAFE RCBO be tested for verification regardless and this is now confirmed in writing. Showing our intention to lead with electrical safety for Generators and Inverters for Australia and New Zealand with ACTYPE (AUS) and ATYPE (NZ).”
